ARAB AMERICAN COMMUNITY CENTER GALA HIGHLIGHTING THE “CULTURE AND PEOPLE OF MOROCCO

It was no ordinary affair as the Arab American Cultural Center (the “ACC”) celebrated its 21st Anniversary Gala under the theme “Moving Forward”.

In collaboration with the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad and the Moroccan Society of Houston the ACC highlighted the people and culture of Morocco, a country rich in culture and diversity.

Staying true to ACC’s tradition of taking things to new heights, and with the vivacious and forever gracious Mrs. Randa Chadraoui as the Gala chair, the Omni Hotel Ballroom was transformed into an exotic set from a Moroccan Riad with festive colors, exquisite Moroccan lanterns and a Moroccan Bazaar showcasing arts and crafts from Morocco.

Guests were treated to a collage of the best of Moroccan Music, A Flamenco dance and live entertainment by the ‘Diva’ of Sahrawi singers, the iconic Ms. Saida Charaf. Dinner was a three course Moroccan delight, featuring an ‘Atlas Tagine’ and warm ‘Couscous’, both staples in Moroccan cuisine. The splendid fun continued as native Moroccan designer Frederique Birkemeyer wowed the attendees with a world class Caftan show, a collection of unique pieces of caftan dresses and ghandouras, combining modern marvels and oriental tradition.

This year the ACC was thrilled to honor Drs. Kamal G. and Samia N. Kalil for their outstanding Community and Leadership Service and Farouk Shami and Farouk Systems for Philanthropy and corporate stewardship.
